With such a large viewership, large events such as The Oscars are a great opportunity to bring awareness to different causes. The 95th Annual Academy Awards which took place this past Sunday were no exception. “Red Carpet Green Dress”, or RCGD Global, is a fashion movement that aims to promote sustainable and ethical fashion choices in the fashion industry. They expanded their partnership this year with The Academy, featuring a material that is no stranger to us at Material ConneXion.
TENCEL™️ made headlines this week when it was used in two custom couture gowns.
TENCEL™️ is an ‘eco-botanical’ filament derived from a renewable resource at a commercial scale that embed sustainability, based on a closed loop process using an environmentally sound technology for luxury fashion. These Lyocell eco filaments are derived from sustainable wood sources – natural forests and sustainably managed plantations of various tree species, including eucalyptus, spruce, pine, and birch trees. The closed loop production process used is based on a solvent, of which more than 99% is recovered and reused with close to zero emissions.
We’re encouraged by this continued collaboration and excited to see the growing partnership between RCGD Global and other material innovations.
